$70.010 - $90.340 - $110.660The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do
Under the direction of the chief and/or medical director of perinatology, the Lead Perinatal US is responsible for daily operations of the perinatal ultrasound clinic, ensuring the highest standards of diagnostic imaging, patient care, and compliance with clinical protocols. Perform advanced-level perinatal and obstetric ultrasounds. Lead and coordinate the daily workflow of the ultrasound team, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality imaging services. Serve as the lead liaison between sonographers and maternal-fetal medicine physicians, facilitating communication and collaboration on patient care. Provide training, mentoring, and ongoing education to sonographers, including performance evaluations and skill assessments. Assist with scheduling, staffing, and equipment management to optimize departmental efficiency. Ensure compliance with AIUM and facility-specific guidelines and protocols for obstetric ultrasound and fetal imaging. Support accreditation and quality assurance efforts, including image review, protocol development, and policy implementation.
Required Qualifications
- Satisfactory completion of formal training program in an AMA approved school and meets the requirements of an appropriate State and/or Federal mandated certification or equivalent.
- 2 Years sonographer experience to include obstetrics.
- 1 Year Perinatal imaging experience to include: fetal spine, thorax abdomen, extremities, umbilical cord and central nervous system, etc.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography -REQUIRED
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 Year leadership experience.
- ARRT Certificate - ARRT -PREFERRED
- Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) - CA Department of Public Health -PREFERRED
Other Qualification Requirements
- Fetal Echocardiography Certification (RDMS-FE) from ARDMS - REQUIRED.
Nuchal Translucency Certification from Fetal Medicine Foundation is preferred.

Ensures optimal image QA, performs procedures according to department protocol.
Understands and applies appropriate imaging techniques and demonstrates specified annual competencies.
Positions according to department imaging protocols.
Labels and identifies studies correctly using legal documentation.
Uses imaging equipment proficiently. - Demonstrates Initiative
Assures daily staffing levels are appropriate for workload and quality patient care needs.
Supervision of day-to-day activities of Radiology Personnel to ensure efficient staff productivity.
Ensures that patient flow within the department is constant and organized.
Problem solves to promote positive relationships with internal and external customers.
Facilitates referring physicians' requests.
Ensures adequate inventory and equipment maintenance in the department.
Maintains professional and positive atmosphere in the department.
Ensures adherence to departmental Policy, Procedure, and guidelines (i.e.: dress code, radiation safety, standard precautions). - Human Resource Management
Timely completion of staff schedules.
Provides input to manager/supervisor/ops coordinator on hiring and promotion decisions, corrective actions, coaching and counseling.
Ensures completion of performance appraisals and competencies (new hire and annual/ongoing).
Ensures lunch and break relief is provided to all staff.
Communicates pertinent issues to the manager/ops coordinator/supervisor on a timely basis.
Supports development, education, and training of staff, include coaching and performance improvement.
Acts as a resource to staff and physicians. - Patient and Family Education
Provides pre and post procedure education and reassurance to include but not limited to: what the procedure is, how long it is going to take, physician involved, and mode of delivery, positioning, instructions related to procedure, the report, patient satisfaction form, etc.
Interacts and communicates in a manner to reflect an understanding of the patient's age, culture, state of health, level of comprehension.
Communicates and interacts with the patient's family in a way that is perceived positive and supportive while maintaining patient confidentiality. - Quality Assurance
Maintain site accreditation and renewal requirement.
Monthly and/or quarterly quality improvement/assurance case presentation - collect case and prepare presentation.
Implements safe, efficient and therapeutic care.
Performs proper procedure on proper patient.
Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions.
Observes the patient, reports any changes in status, and initiates appropriate action to ensure a positive outcome. Follows patient's Advanced Directive.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality, keeps work discussion professional and limited to private areas. - Regulatory Compliance
Stay current on regulatory requirements, gather information and assists inspector.
Ensures all exams are completed properly and all images are accounted for by the end of the shift.
Verify physicians written order and assures appropriate clinical indication of ordered exams.
Accurately complete exams in EMR, filling out appropriate information.
Provide correct coding of exams, billing modifiers, supplies.
Ensure report is filed appropriately.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Typing Skills: using a keyboard, required to type proficiently and accurately; ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute with 0-2 errors; ability to proof work.
